WELCOME!
Dominic and Olivia
So glad you have found us! I wanted to take this time to share a little bit about myself and my goals as your child's teacher!
FAMILY LIFE: My name is Mrs. C, but my real name is Courtney Cruz. I have been at the Mollie Kessler School since March of 2008. I am married to Rick and we have 2 children. Dominic, aka D, is 7 years old and will be in 2nd grade. He absolutely loves basketball, being with his friends, playing games, and all things athletic. This year he has learned to read.. Olivia, aka Liv, is 5 years old and has quite the spunk in her. This summer she learned to ride her bike without training wheels. She can't wait to start kindergarten this year. My husband works hard and is really dedicated to his family. He plays the guitar and drums. When he plays the drums the whole house shakes!
COLLEGE: I graduated college from Mount Vernon Nazarene University and majored in Early Childhood Education. I did spend my sophomore year at YSU. Currently, I am enrolled in a Master's Program through YSU in Early Childhood Education. I had to take a few semesters off, but I plan on starting back up in the fall.
WHO I AM AS A TEACHER: The desire to teach to the whole child sums up how I see my role as your child's teacher. I believe that kids deserve the right to learn on their individual level and at their pace. I also believe that when you challenge kids appropriately that they will always go above and beyond your expectations. So, I never put a limit on success. Aim high and kids will reach high. Its important to me to help kids see the "good" in themselves and in return they will show "good" to those around them. Class One truly is like a family working together in a fun, engaging enviornment. The kids feel free to be themselves and we truly celebrate their uniqueness! I love the Project Approach which means the kids are in the lead. Of course, I am a guide. I know where they are supposed to be going and guide in a non-descreate way. Because they see themselves as responsible for their learning, it happens more naturally, they are more willing to go on the journey and work towards success.
I feel that parents are my best ally. I really believe in having successful relationships and connections in all aspects of a student's life. It's important for you to feel that I am here for you too!
*My door is always open and I believe in connecting school and the home, as well as the community. We are all in this together! So, if you ever have a concern, idea, or just want to help please let me know :)
